As you may have gathered from a few of my posts lately, I have been rather disappointed with Walgreens deals lately. My store has gotten a new manager and she has ‘cracked down’ on couponers. I have had more trouble shopping at Walgreens since she became the manager – she doesn’t seem to have a rhyme or reason for her decisions…she just seems to make up rules on the spot.
I went into Walgreens today to purchase some of the Right Guard deodorant that is Buy One Get One Free this week. I had a Buy One Get One Free Coupon. Associate #1 was perplexed and called Associate #2 over to ask her about it. Neither of them had an answer since they both said they had never encountered something like this. So, into the manager’s office they went. I waited and waited and waited for the manager to come out and talk with me, but she never even came out {which I just think is rude…especially considering how long I had to stand there}. It took her a good 20 minutes and calling another associate into her office before she finally sent Associate #2 back to tell me that the manager had said using a BOGO Coupon along with a BOGO Walgreens sale was against Walgreens Policy.
Just so you know, I was nice and polite {you get nowhere by being rude and upset}, but I did tell them that I had used those coupons earlier in the week on that very deal. Both Associates became interested on that note and wanted to know who had been my cashier. I wasn’t about to help them string up an employee so I just left.
Have any of you encountered a problem like this before? I have read different blogs who have contact Walgreens Corporate and asked if it was ok to use BOGO Coupons along with their BOGO Free Sales and they have gotten a positive response. But I have never checked for myself – I have never needed to ask because I have never had a proble before today.
So, when I got home I called corporate. I asked the Customer Service Representative if she knew – she didn’t – and I threw in a complaint about the manager at my Walgreens and her making up new ‘rules’ depending on their current sales. I also said it would be very helpful if Walgreens would write out a Corporate Coupon Policy because shopping at Walgreens varies by location and their managers. It makes shopping there unpleasant and not worth my time or money since I never know what exactly will be allowed at which locations.
I did mention to the Customer Service Rep that I was calling to confirm that it is against their policy to use a BOGO Coupon with their BOGO sales. I made sure to she knew that I believe in ethical couponing and if I get a negative response from Walgreens Corporate I would no longer attempt to use BOGO Coupons with their BOGO Sales. I wanted to make sure to let her know I was not upset about not being able to score this deal, but rather that my interest is in knowing what is right and what is wrong.
I stood there for almost 30 minutes with only a last minute apology as I walked out the door with my coupons. My time is worth something to me and, if shopping at Walgreens is going to present all of these problems, I won’t be shopping there anymore. However, I am hoping that Walgreens Corporate can straighten this out for me when they return my call at the beginning of next week. I will let you know what response I get!
Until then, I am curious. Have any of you had to call Walgreens Corporate Office? If so, I would love to hear your story!
